• Description: The Data Quality Campaign conveened an invitation-only Privacy Advisory Group (PAG) to provide expertise and counsel to the DQC Partners as they develop tools, resources, and messages to inform state policymaker efforts to ensure the privacy and security of data while also maximizing its potential to inform decision making across the education pathways.

  As state policymakers continue to build data systems that are able to link, analyze and share data across the P-20/Workforce pathway, there are increasing requests for guidance on how to do so while making privacy and security of the data a priority. Over the next six-nine months as states begin to receive funding from the IES Longitudinal Data Systems and the Race to the Top programs, there is a strategic opportunity to provide policymakers with possible roadmaps and best practices to guide their proposed work to build and leverage interoperable, user-friendly data systems. We intend to bring together a wide spectrum of opinions and perspectives through this PAG to help us identify the most critical issues and provide possible models from other states and industries for states to consider as they develop their systems. A number of resources have already been developed. We plan to continue identifying resources that exist and develop new ones to expedite policymakers understanding of these issues and to inform their actions.
